statue atop a building, female figures in particular.

how many were there at the WCE? Another, the Diana atop the Agriculture Building.

How often did this happen in Chicago?

She supposedly influenced Montgomery Ward to put Progress atop his Michigan Avenue HQ. There was a Mercury atop Bertha's dads Honore Building on Dearborn Street where Helmet Jahn's 1980 Xerox Center stands. CBOT too.

curious

Your comment got cut off a bit, I think. If you are asking about how many female statues at WCE, I don't think anyone has a number because it was the era when concepts were embodied by female figures, so classically draped female figures were everywhere. There were relatively few real women, though Queen Isabella and Bertha Honore Palmer were popular souvenirs.
